Practical Tips

Combining vineyards: Two in a day is possible with careful planning; three is inadvisable for reasons that will become apparent after the second tasting. Bolney and Ridgeview (12 miles apart) make a logical Sussex pair.

On not driving: The train-to-taxi pattern works reliably for most estates. Pre-book taxis from local firms rather than relying on app-based services. Most estates can recommend a local taxi firm.

Best day: Saturday works for most vineyards. Friday is increasingly viable and avoids weekend traffic on rural roads.

On buying wine: Most estates sell at cellar door prices that undercut retail modestly but meaningfully. A case of twelve bottles is heavy; most estates will ship nationally.
